How many of us have a funny feeling inside this time of year? We know something is bothering us, but we can’t put our finger on it. It’s something nagging in the back of our brain. What is it and why am I feeling this way??!! I feel sad, uncomfortable, overwhelmed, and nostalgia runs through my whole being. Welcome to November, the holiday season is upon us!
Ah yes, that’s it. How could I have forgotten that feeling from last year? How did the holidays sneak up on me? I’m not ready, I’m never going to make it to New Years!
What do you do when you feel like this? We all have our reasons for feeling this way, whether it be loneliness over the holidays, families that don’t get along, or just too much to do in a short time.
Take it day to day! Talk to your spouse or significant other about what is realistic for your holiday. Can you deal with a family dinner? Problem solve together! There is not one right way to do things. Prepare early to avoid the overwhelming feelings.
If you hate the holiday crowds, get a jump on your online shopping, or go to a single store in off hours. Be kind to yourself and don’t overdo it! Most important is to discuss your feelings, if not with family or friends, call a mental health professional. We are here for you! And know that many people suffer from the Holiday Blues. It’s not just you.
